About The Position

As a Psychological Services Specialist, Corrections for the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Coal Township, you help guide inmates toward improved emotional health. Each day offers opportunities to teach skills, provide support, and contribute to positive behavior change. Your work strengthens institutional safety and helps individuals move toward better long-term outcomes. This position focuses on helping inmates improve emotional adjustment and supporting their mental health needs through counseling, evaluation, and direct intervention. It also involves coordinating services, assisting with testing, and taking part in committees that guide treatment decisions.

Requirements

  • Two years as a Psychological Services Associate Corrections (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration)
  • A Master's degree in psychology or a closely related field which includes fifteen graduate level credits in psychology; and two years of experience in the field of psychology under the direct supervision of a licensed psychologist.
  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • Meet the PA residency requirement.
  • Be able to perform essential job functions.
  • Pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Possess or obtain licensure as a Social Worker, Clinical Social Worker, or Professional Counselor issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapist and Professional Counselors.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group therapy to support emotional adjustment and address treatment goals
  • Conduct interviews, administer tests, interpret results, and prepare psychological reports
  • Work with institutional departments and outside agencies to support inmate treatment needs
  • Offer crisis intervention and support for inmates who present immediate emotional concerns
  • Serve on institutional committees and contribute information for treatment and reentry planning
  • Provide direction to student interns completing training in psychological testing and assessment
