About The Position
As a Corrections Construction Equipment Operator Instructor for the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Coal Township, you will lead real-world construction and maintenance projects. Each day brings new opportunities to teach safe equipment operation and support important facility needs. Your instruction helps develop practical abilities that inmates can use throughout their lives. This role involves supervising inmate crews and teaching the safe operation of heavy construction equipment, maintaining and guiding an inmate work crew while providing classroom and hands-on instruction, and ensuring security and proper work practices.
Requirements
- Completion of an approved apprenticeship in the operation of heavy equipment; or Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training which includes one year of journeyman level work.
- Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license.
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA.
- Meet the PA residency requirement.
- Ability to perform essential job functions.
- Pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
Responsibilities
- Lead inmate work crews in construction, excavation, and maintenance tasks
- Train inmates in safe and correct use of heavy machinery such as backhoes, loaders, and excavators
- Enforce all safety rules, tool procedures, and institutional policies
- Plan, assign, and review work while monitoring progress and quality
- Perform and teach basic preventative maintenance on assigned equipment
- Complete inmate instruction records, evaluations, time records, and payroll forms
