About The Position

As a Psychological Services Associate, Corrections for the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Coal Township, you help inmates build stronger emotional skills and adjust more successfully to their environment. Each day brings opportunities to provide support, encourage growth, and contribute to safer facility operations. Your work plays an important part in improving long-term outcomes for those in your care. This position focuses on providing limited counseling, evaluations, and support services to help inmates manage emotional and mental health needs. It also involves coordinating services, preparing treatment materials, and working under the guidance of licensed psychologists.

Requirements

  • A Master's degree in psychology or a closely related field, which includes fifteen graduate level credits in psychology, counseling, educational counseling, rehabilitation, human development, learning, or motivation.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.
  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • You must meet the PA residency requirement.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional pay will be considered for those who currently possess or obtain licensure as a Social Worker, Clinical Social Worker, or Professional Counselor issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapist and Professional Counselors.

Responsibilities

  • Provide group and individual counseling using approved techniques and treatment goals
  • Conduct interviews, help administer tests, and discuss results with supervising psychologists
  • Work with institutional departments and outside agencies to support inmate treatment needs
  • Prepare case formulations and behavior plans for review by licensed psychologists
  • Support research studies designed to improve psychological services
