About The Position

The Psychological Associate provides individual, group, couples, children’s, and family psychotherapy under the supervision of a licensed Psychologist and within the scope of a Psychological Associate registered with the California Board of Psychology. The role includes conducting clinical intakes; administering, scoring, and interpreting psychological assessments; formulating diagnostic impressions for supervisor review; developing and monitoring treatment plans; and maintaining clinical documentation in accordance with California regulations, organizational policies, and insurance requirements. The position also includes facilitating therapy and educational groups at contracted locations such as schools, day treatment centers, and facilities serving incarcerated youth and adults. The Associate may develop and modify curriculum materials, evaluate program effectiveness, connect clients with resources, and provide public psychoeducation. The role works in a normal office environment and uses computers, laptops, telephones, copiers, and printers, with travel to assigned off-site locations as needed.

Requirements

Doctoral degree (PhD or PsyD) in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA-accredited or regionally accredited program, or a master’s degree in psychology with eligibility to register as a Psychological Associate with the California Board of Psychology.
Current, active Psychological Associate registration with the California Board of Psychology; registration number must be provided before employment begins.
Signed supervision agreement with a California-licensed Psychologist, compliant with California Business and Professions Code §2913, before beginning supervised hours.
Current professional liability (malpractice) insurance maintained throughout employment.

Organizational skills to manage complex, deadline-driven clinical documentation, billing, and insurance paperwork.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or related software and access to a working laptop for documentation and telehealth services.
Ability to commit to at least 20 face-to-face client hours per week for a one-year contract period.
Thorough understanding of applicable ethical codes, standards, and California law governing Psychological Associates, including APA Ethical Principles.
Ability to travel to contracted locations as assigned.

Nice To Haves

1–2 years of experience providing therapy to individuals, children, couples, and/or families.
Experience administering and interpreting psychological assessments.
Knowledge of and experience completing SOAP notes.
Knowledge of and experience using DSM-5-TR for diagnostic formulation in a therapeutic setting.
Experience leading individual and group therapy sessions.
Experience with children, including play therapy, personality disorders, and/or court-involved populations.

Responsibilities

Provide individual, group, couples, children’s, and family psychotherapy under the supervision of a licensed Psychologist.
Administer, score, and interpret psychological assessments and testing instruments within the Associate’s competence and under supervisory oversight.
Conduct clinical intakes, formulate diagnoses consistent with DSM-5-TR criteria, and present diagnostic impressions to the supervising Psychologist for review and approval.
Develop, implement, and monitor individualized treatment plans and document client progress in accordance with organizational policy and insurance requirements.
Measure therapeutic intervention effectiveness and make clinically indicated modifications under supervisor guidance.
Collaborate with clients on post-treatment activities and relapse-prevention plans.
Gather and analyze client and family information through observation, interviews, self-report inventories, group discussions, and formal assessments.
Refer clients to specialists or help them access appropriate services and community resources.
Maintain accurate case-progress, evaluation, treatment-recommendation, and clinical records.
Complete SOAP notes within 24 hours after each session and make corrections within 48 hours of notification.
Prepare and submit paperwork requested by insurers and organizational administration, including prior authorizations and treatment-plan reviews.
Facilitate groups at contracted locations, including programs for incarcerated youth and adults, schools, and day treatment centers.
Facilitate groups in accordance with curriculum standards and contract requirements.
Create and modify curriculum materials and presentations for contracted programs.
Evaluate group educational and therapeutic programs and collaborate with participants, staff, the clinical director, and colleagues to strengthen program offerings.
Help clients and group participants identify and access needed services and resources.
Present mental-health information and psychoeducation at public events, assemblies, trainings, and workshops.
Participate in research, clinical and administrative paperwork, meetings, conferences, trainings, and seminars as required.
Understand and follow organizational goals, policies, applicable healthcare guidelines, and the scope of practice for a California-registered Psychological Associate.
Contribute to evaluation and improvement of client-service workflows.
Travel to contracted locations for assigned groups, classes, assemblies, fairs, trainings, and workshops.
Complete other duties and special projects as assigned.
