About The Position

The Psychiatrist provides direct patient care within the psychiatric scope of practice. Diagnose, treat, and manage mental health conditions, including prescribing psychiatric medications and monitoring for side effects. Conduct telepsychiatry consultations using electronic medical records (EMR) and video conferencing tools. Perform psychotherapy and supportive treatments, including cognitive behavioral therapy and somatic therapies. The Psychiatrist monitors and documents treatment progress, adjusting care plans as necessary. Participate in performance improvement programs, ensuring quality and appropriateness of care. Act as a mental health consultant to medical staff, providing oversight and direction related to mental health care. Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations. Complete and pass all competency tests, training, and certifications required by the facility. The Psychiatrist provides emergency psychiatric care during on-call coverage, which includes returning to the facility as needed.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited U.S. institution, or an equivalent degree from a foreign medical school accredited by NCFMEA and ECFMG for foreign graduates.
  • Minimum one year of experience as a licensed psychiatrist.
  • Full and unrestricted medical license in the state of Louisiana.
  • Must be board certified/board eligible by the ABPN.
  • Must have current ACLS and BLS certification or equivalent.
