Central State Hospital (CSH), a 277-bed Joint Commission-accredited psychiatric inpatient facility in Petersburg, Virginia, is recruiting an Assistant Chief Medical Director to provide clinical leadership and oversight within its forensic and civil psychiatric program. CSH operates the state's only maximum-security treatment facility, with 111 beds, and provides 166 additional beds for community and criminal-justice-system patients. The hospital uses a holistic, individualized, recovery-oriented approach that may include medication, evidence-based group and individual therapy, peer support, psychosocial rehabilitation, vocational training, court preparation, and substance-use treatment. This leadership role combines direct psychiatric treatment with supervision of psychiatric providers; management of forensic and civil census and services; court responsibilities; staff development; performance improvement; and a commitment to patient safety and recovery. The Assistant Chief Medical Director leads multidisciplinary treatment teams, promotes timely and appropriate discharge planning, ensures compliance with medical, regulatory, and documentation standards, and advances effective use of the electronic health record. The role participates in second-on-call coverage for the MOD. The typical schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., or four 10.5-hour days. The position is open until filled. Applicants are subject to an extensive background investigation and pre-employment drug screening.
