The Psychiatric Urgent Care (PUC) clinic at Sheppard Pratt's Elkridge and Towson campuses is a walk-in service for people needing immediate psychiatric care. It’s designed to be focused on immediate triage and assessment to guide patients to the best next step in treatment. The Psychiatrist in Psychiatric Urgent Care (PUC) provides essential clinical expertise by conducting comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, including mental status examinations and diagnostic summaries. This individual is responsible for formulating initial diagnoses and determining the most appropriate level of care—including the necessity for hospitalization—for patients presenting with a wide spectrum of mental health and substance use disorders. Depending on the experience level of the selected candidate, there is opportunity for appointment or advancement into a leadership role for Admissions and PUC. The leadership role would involve providing clinical oversight to ensure the safety, quality, and efficiency of immediate psychiatric triage. This leadership function involves establishing clinical protocols for rapid assessments, optimizing patient throughput, and facilitating seamless transitions to inpatients units or alternative care settings. Working in close partnership with the Senior Director of Access and Chief of Medical Staff, the leader aligns clinic operations with Sheppard Pratt's mission and strategic objectives. Other leadership responsibilities include supervising a multidisciplinary team and trainees, managing department budgets, and ensuring full compliance with licensing and regulatory accreditation standards.
