About The Position

VitalCore Health Strategies (VCHS), an industry leader in Correctional Health Care, has openings for Psychiatric Technicians at James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in Smyrna, DE for Full-Time. The Psychiatric Technician will provide continuous visual monitoring of patients who have been assessed to be at an increased risk of harm to self or others (otherwise known as Psychiatric Close Observation).

Requirements

• High School Diploma
• Ability to remain attentive and focused during extended periods of observation.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to remain calm and professional when working with patients experiencing behavioral or emotional distress.
• Ability to follow detailed instructions, safety procedures, and facility protocols.
• Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and professional boundaries.

Nice To Haves

• Associate degree in human services, or working towards a degree in human services
• Previous experience in behavioral health, mental health, healthcare, corrections, or a similar environment preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide continuous, uninterrupted visual observation of patients placed on Psychiatric Close Observation.
• Maintain a safe, secure, and therapeutic environment for patients and staff.
• Closely monitor and document patient behavior, activities, and changes in condition in accordance with established procedures.
• Immediately report changes in patient behavior, safety concerns, or potential risks to nursing or clinical staff.
• Follow established procedures for patients identified as being at risk for self-harm, harm to others, or other safety concerns.
• Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and interact with patients in a respectful, calm, and compassionate manner.
• Assist clinical staff with maintaining a structured and orderly patient environment.
• Follow all facility, company, and security policies and procedures.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient information in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
• Complete required documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
• Communicate effectively with nursing, behavioral health, medical, and security personnel.
• Participate in required training and maintain competency in assigned duties.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
