About The Position

Working under the direction of an RN and in compliance with the treatment plan, the Psychiatric Technician provides therapeutic care and monitors patients’ conditions. The role assists patients with daily activities and helps ensure a safe, clean environment.

Requirements

Associate degree in a human services field or science; or
Currently enrolled in an accredited Nursing Program and completed a mental health clinical rotation; or
High school diploma and completion of a Behavioral Health training program through the US Armed Services; or
High school diploma and three years of direct patient care experience on an inpatient psychiatric unit or in a residential setting; or
High school diploma and three years of relevant human services experience (such as social services, law enforcement, community mental health, hospital, or criminal justice) or experience working as a security officer in a hospital setting.

Nice To Haves

Previous experience working with persons with mental illness or substance abuse disorders.
Bachelor’s degree in a human services field or science.

Responsibilities

Observe patients’ behavior, listen to their concerns, and record their condition, observations, and services performed.
Lead patients in therapeutic and recreational activities.
Assist with admitting, transporting, and discharging patients.
Monitor patients’ vital signs.
Help patients with activities of daily living, including eating and bathing.
Restrain patients who may become physically violent.
Provide compassionate support, attention, and assistance to patients and families.
Ensure compliance with health care regulations, including HIPAA and OSHA.
Maintain a safe and clean working environment and protect patients and employees by adhering to infection-control, hazardous-waste, and other policies and protocols.
Perform other related duties as required and directed.
