About The Position
The Psychiatric Technician role at Atrium Health Stanly Psychiatric Unit involves observing, reporting, and documenting patient behavior changes to the charge nurse. This position requires therapeutic interaction with patients, assisting in and participating in social and recreational activities, group therapy, and patient teaching groups. The technician will utilize CPI techniques appropriately, make regular rounds on assigned patients, and demonstrate flexibility in managing a changing workload. A key aspect of the role is responding to patients with empathy, maintaining their dignity and confidentiality. The position also involves participation in unit-based process improvement activities and committees. On-call duties may be requested, and all mandatory training must be completed as per facility policy.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Good therapeutic communication skills required.
- CPI certification required within 90 days of hire date.
- BLS required per policy guidelines.
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Relevant patient care experience in a hospital setting preferred.
Responsibilities
- Observes, reports, and documents signs and symptoms or changes in patient behavior to charge nurse.
- Interacts with patients therapeutically.
- Assists, initiates, and participates in social and recreational activities, group therapy, patient teaching groups, and other group activities.
- Uses CPI techniques appropriately.
- Makes rounds on assigned patients at least every half hour during shift.
- Demonstrates flexibility in changing workload.
- Responds to patients with empathy, maintaining their dignity and confidentiality.
- Participates in unit-based process improvement activities.
- Participates in unit-based committees.
- May include on-call duties as requested by administration.
- Completes all mandatory training as per facility policy.
