Psychiatric Technician - Atrium Health Davidson Behavioral Health Mountain Laurel FT Nights
About The Position
The Psychiatric Technician works in the inpatient behavioral health unit at Davidson Behavioral Health, Mountain Laurel. The role supports patient care by observing and documenting patient behavior, engaging therapeutically with patients, and assisting with group and recreational activities. The technician works three 12.5-hour night shifts per week, from 7 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., including every other weekend. The position is full-time, with 36 hours per week, and may include on-call duties as requested by administration. CPI certification is required within 90 days of hire, and BLS is required according to policy guidelines.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Good therapeutic communication skills.
- CPI certification within 90 days of hire.
- BLS certification as required by policy guidelines.
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Relevant patient care experience in a hospital setting preferred.
Responsibilities
- Observe, report, and document signs, symptoms, or changes in patient behavior to the charge nurse.
- Interact therapeutically with patients.
- Assist with, initiate, and participate in social and recreational activities, group therapy, patient teaching groups, and other group activities.
- Use CPI techniques appropriately.
- Make rounds on assigned patients at least every half hour during the shift.
- Demonstrate flexibility in changing workload.
- Respond to patients with empathy while maintaining their dignity and confidentiality.
- Participate in unit-based process improvement activities and committees.
- Perform on-call duties if requested by administration.
- Complete mandatory training as required by facility policy.
