About The Position

The Psychiatric Technician provides patient care in an inpatient behavioral health setting at Atrium Health Davidson Behavioral Health, River Birch. The role involves observing and reporting patient behavior, interacting therapeutically with patients, supporting group and recreational activities, and maintaining patient dignity and confidentiality. This is a part-time night-shift position scheduled for 24 hours per week, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., with weekend scheduling and holiday rotation requirements. On-call duties may be requested by administration.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Good therapeutic communication skills.
• CPI certification required within 90 days of hire.
• BLS required per policy guidelines.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Relevant patient care experience in a hospital setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Observe, report, and document signs, symptoms, or changes in patient behavior to the charge nurse.
• Interact with patients therapeutically.
• Assist with, initiate, and participate in social and recreational activities, group therapy, patient teaching groups, and other group activities.
• Use CPI techniques appropriately.
• Make rounds on assigned patients at least every half hour during the shift.
• Demonstrate flexibility in response to changing workload.
• Respond to patients with empathy while maintaining their dignity and confidentiality.
• Participate in unit-based process improvement activities and committees.
• Perform on-call duties when requested by administration.
• Complete all mandatory training required by facility policy.
