About The Position

Seafield Center is seeking a part-time Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner to provide medical care to patients. The role involves ensuring newly admitted patients are medically stable for admission and program participation. A key aspect of this position is understanding addiction, Medication for Addiction Treatment (MAT), and the associated stigma. The position is classified as 'Essential' for emergency closure purposes.

Requirements

At least one year of substance use disorders treatment experience.
Must be a physician (M.D. or D.O.), PA, or NP licensed to practice in the state of New York.
Understanding of Addiction, Medication for Addiction Treatment (MAT), and the stigma associated with terminology and treatment of addiction and MAT.
Use information systems access as assigned, when applicable.

Responsibilities

Performs physical examination and mental status evaluation of each patient admitted.
Provides an admitting or tentative diagnosis within 24 hours of admission, which becomes part of the client’s record.
Writes initial orders for patient care upon admission in collaboration with the patient, based on assessments and needs.
Performs re-examination and treatment for physical and mental complaints, ranging from supportive reassurance to specific treatment of existing physical illness.
Consults with outside physicians or dentists as needed.
Adjusts medications daily when indicated.
Meets with patients prior to discharge to review medical status and make appropriate referrals.
Consults with family regarding patient care, management, and health when indicated.
Ensures patients are informed of their rights, either directly or through a designee.
Ensures all consents for medical treatment are signed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
