About The Position

This position is for a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) at the ICE facility in Eloy, AZ, also known as the Eloy Detention Center. The facility is operated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and serves individuals awaiting immigration hearings or deportation. The role involves providing psychiatric and medical care within the scope of practice, working both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Responsibilities include diagnosing and treating acute and chronic psychiatric disorders, prescribing medication, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, and providing telepsychiatry services to other IHSC facilities as needed and permitted by state licensure. The position adheres to IHSC's safety, prevention, infection control, quality improvement, and patient education programs.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner or physician assistant program located in the United States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or U.S. territory.
  • Minimum of one year of clinical provider experience in direct patient care.
  • Maintain current board certification as APMHMP by the American Nurse Credentialing Center (for PMHNPs).
  • Maintain current certification of National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (for PAs).
  • Maintain an unrestricted license with the Drug Enforcement Agency.
  • Maintain an unrestricted license in the state in which the duty station is located.
  • Maintain BLS certification for health care providers through the American Heart Association.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and treat acute and chronic psychiatric disorders.
  • Provide counseling, support, and prescribe medications in accordance with the approved IHSC scope of practice.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic and therapeutic tests relative to the detainee's psychiatric needs.
  • Utilize evidence-based tools and identification of risks associated with medication-induced movement disorders.
  • Provide telepsychiatry services for patients at other IHSC facilities as needed and as the local facility allows, only in the states the provider is licensed.
  • Coordinate mental health patient care, off-site referrals, and collaborative duties through scheduled appointments, sick calls, or walk-ins.
  • Adhere to IHSC's safety, prevention, infection and control, quality improvement, patient education, and other programs and collateral duties as appropriate to the position.
