About The Position

UVA Augusta Pediatrics is seeking an experienced and autonomously licensed, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to provide outpatient behavioral health services within a collaborative pediatric primary care setting. This full-time virtual position offers a four-day workweek (4 x 10-hour shifts) with no inpatient responsibilities. Experience with pediatrics/ teens and young adults ages 5 and up. For this position, there would be some required onsite meetings, collaboration and networking to ensure the role is fully integrated with the clinic teams and workflows. However, patient visits would be conducted virtually. Responsible for provision of Advanced Practice Provider services, including assessment and management of patients across all clinical settings, within the scope of licensing, training, and credentialing dependent on specialty. Must reside in Virginia and deliver all care from within the Commonwealth. Reliable high-speed internet required for video-based patient care. Computer equipment will be provided. Private, confidential workspace suitable for clinical telehealth. 32 patient-facing hours per week plus 8 hours of administrative time (total 40 hours). Schedule could include weekend and/or evening coverage as needed and based on patient needs. Flexibility is essential to success in this role. No hospital call or inpatient coverage. Integrated behavioral health model within a pediatric primary care practice. Collaborative support from pediatric primary care providers, nursing, and care management teams.

Requirements

  • Master's or Doctoral degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Board certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP).
  • Current or eligible Virginia Nurse Practitioner and Registered Nurse licensure.
  • DEA registration and prescriptive authority eligibility.
  • Minimum of 3 years of psychiatric practice experience in pediatrics.
  • Ability to practice independently and manage a diverse outpatient psychiatric patient panel.
  • Must reside in Virginia and deliver all care from within the Commonwealth.
  • Reliable high-speed internet required for video-based patient care.
  • Private, confidential workspace suitable for clinical telehealth.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and diagnostic assessments for pediatrics, adolescents and young adults.
  • Diagnose and treat a broad range of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, ADHD, autism, PTSD, bipolar disorder, and other psychiatric disorders.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans utilizing evidence-based medication management and therapeutic interventions.
  • Prescribe, adjust and monitor psychotropic medications in accordance with Virginia regulations and clinical best practices.
  • Provide ongoing follow-up care, including symptom management, treatment monitoring and medication education.
  • Collaborate closely with pediatric primary care providers to support integrated patient care and address behavioral health needs within the pediatric primary care setting.
  • Coordinate referrals to specialty behavioral health services, counseling, substance use treatment, and community resources as appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to a patient-centered, team-based care environment.
