Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (Autonomous Licensed) - PMH NP - UVA Health Primary Care Culpeper and Culpeper Pediatrics (virtual position)
About The Position
UVA Health Primary Care Culpeper is seeking an experienced and autonomously licensed Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to provide outpatient behavioral health services within a collaborative primary care setting. This full-time virtual position offers a four-day workweek (4 x 10-hour shifts) with no inpatient responsibilities and experience with ages 5 and up. For this position, there would be some required onsite meetings, collaboration and networking to ensure the role is fully integrated with the clinic teams and workflows. However, patient visits would be conducted virtually. The role is responsible for the provision of Advanced Practice Provider services, including assessment and management of patients across all clinical settings, dependent on specialty. Virtual Delivery Requirements include residing in Virginia and delivering all care from within the Commonwealth, reliable high-speed internet for video-based patient care, computer equipment provided, and a private, confidential workspace suitable for clinical telehealth. The schedule includes 32 patient-facing hours per week plus 8 hours of administrative time (total 40 hours), with potential for weekend and/or evening coverage as needed. Flexibility is essential for success in this role. This position highlights an integrated behavioral health model within a primary care practice with collaborative support from primary care providers, nursing, and care management teams, and no hospital call or inpatient coverage.
Requirements
- Master's or Doctoral degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
- Board certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP).
- Current or eligible Virginia Nurse Practitioner and Registered Nurse licensure.
- DEA registration and prescriptive authority eligibility.
- Minimum of 3 years of psychiatric practice experience.
- Ability to practice independently and manage a diverse outpatient psychiatric patient panel.
- Must reside in Virginia and deliver all care from within the Commonwealth.
- Reliable high-speed internet required for video-based patient care.
- Private, confidential workspace suitable for clinical telehealth.

Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and diagnostic assessments for adolescents and adults.
- Diagnose and treat a broad range of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, ADHD, PTSD, bipolar disorder, and other psychiatric disorders.
- Develop individualized treatment plans utilizing evidence-based medication management and therapeutic interventions.
- Prescribe, adjust, and monitor psychotropic medications in accordance with Virginia regulations and clinical best practices.
- Provide ongoing follow-up care, including symptom management, treatment monitoring, and medication education.
- Collaborate closely with primary care providers to support integrated patient care and address behavioral health needs within the primary care setting.
- Coordinate referrals to specialty behavioral health services, counseling, substance use treatment, and community resources as appropriate.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to a patient-centered, team-based care environment.
