About The Position

Lighting is responsible for the fabrication, assembly, and finishing of prototype lighting components and related properties for advanced development projects at Prefix Corporation. This role supports the creation of functional and aesthetic prototype parts through silicone mold-making, casting, assembly, and finishing processes using a variety of materials and fabrication techniques. The ideal candidate is hands-on, detail-oriented, and experienced in prototype development, model-making, or low-volume custom fabrication environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in prototype fabrication, model making, or custom manufacturing environments with at least 5 years experience
  • Familiarity with sanding/polishing, mold-making, casting, and finishing techniques
  • Experience working with urethanes, plastics, and optical-grade materials
  • Automotive painting techniques for detailed prototype parts and components

Responsibilities

  • Fabricate, assemble, and finish prototype lighting components and related assemblies
  • Create silicone molds using industry-standard techniques including silicone encapsulation
  • Produce prototype parts using urethane casting, and related fabrication methods
  • Prepare, weigh, measure, and mix plastic compounds, and resins
  • Operate and monitor mixing and casting processes to ensure material consistency and quality
  • Perform detailed sanding, polishing, trimming, and finishing work on a variety of substrates and intricate components
  • Polish and refine optical components including cast urethane and acrylic lenses
  • Operate fabrication equipment including belt sanders, various hand tools, and drill presses
  • Design and build templates, fixtures, and support tooling to aid prototype development and assembly
  • Interpret project requirements and contribute practical feedback during prototype development
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to fabrication methods, workflow efficiency, and quality
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
