About The Position

Nationwide is seeking Protective Services Officers to ensure a safe and secure environment for its workforce and visitors. These officers will patrol and respond to incidents within Nationwide-owned buildings and campuses, assisting associates with protective services and safety-related issues. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, an effective communicator, detail-oriented, and committed to serving and protecting associates and the public.

Requirements

  • Availability to work weekends and holidays as business needs require
  • Valid driver's license required
  • High school degree required
  • Typically, one - three years of related Protective Services experience, law enforcement or military experience desired.
  • Must meet all required training standards and maintain annual firearm licensure and/or taser qualifications required to carry a firearm for a given state.
  • May be required to obtain a concealed carry permit depending upon assignment.
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check.
  • Must undergo a pre-employment psychological assessment by a health care professional to determine fitness for duty as an armed officer.
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical examination by a health care professional.
  • Must successfully pass an annual fitness assessment administered by trained Protective Services staff.
  • Proven knowledge of corporate safety and protective services practices, procedures, and equipment.
  • Must have the ability to learn the use of firearms and safety equipment.
  • Ability to effectively use and maintain a firearm including a handgun and/or taser.
  • Must possess personal computer skills and excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Must possess ability to use good judgment, deescalate and provide calm and rational direction.
  • Must be in good physical condition and capable of performing physically demanding tasks in diverse environments.
  • Requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds (occasionally up to 80 pounds) to a height of six feet, stand for extended periods (up to 8 hours), ride a bicycle up to 10 miles during a shift, and perform movements such as climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling.
  • Must have adequate vision (with or without corrective lenses) to safely use a firearm and perform other essential duties, as well as sufficient hearing to detect conversations, sirens, and radio communications.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to emergency situations including workplace violence, violent offenders, elevator entrapments, accidents, fires, medical emergencies, crimes in progress, and alarm notifications. Assist with emergency procedures and direct public safety officials.
  • Patrol buildings and campuses on foot, bike, or car to provide physical protective services and safety protection for associates, customers, the public, and property. Respond immediately to radio calls to investigate alarms and emergency situations. Approach suspicious persons, respond to crimes in progress, or engage in other life-threatening or dangerous situations.
  • Write initial loss/stolen or incident reports. Conduct follow-up investigations, including reviewing documents, video, and interviewing suspects and victims. Assist management with investigations and testify in court as needed.
  • Intervene in situations posing imminent risk of harm, which may involve investigation, reporting, electronic intervention, physical altercation, or the use of force, including deadly force, firearms, and/or tasers.
  • Enforce company protective services and life safety policies.
  • Provide associate escorts to and from facilities.
  • Assist with on-the-job training of new Protective Service Officer (PSO) associates and provide protective services awareness and new hire training to the associate population.
  • Perform courier services to financial institutions for Nationwide Companies.
  • May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
