About The Position

Nationwide's Technology team is seeking a Corporate Security Officer to play a key role in maintaining a safe, secure, and professional workplace. This role is ideal for someone passionate about delivering extraordinary care and making an impact in a corporate environment. The position offers a consistent second shift schedule from 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM, with two consecutive days off during the week. Flexibility to work weekends and holidays is required. The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, and confident in a customer-facing corporate setting.

Requirements

  • High school degree required.
  • One or more years of related security experience.
  • Proven knowledge of corporate safety and security practices, procedures, equipment, firearm, and console operation.
  • Ability to learn the use of firearms (qualify annually) and safety equipment.
  • Personal computer skills.
  • Good verbal and written communications skills.
  • Ability to use good judgment, deescalate and provide calm and rational direction.
  • Must be in good physical condition.
  • Must possess the physical ability to walk, run, stoop, kneel, carry and lift in order to perform assigned duties.
  • Must be available to work after standard office hours, weekends and holidays as needed for emergency situations and special event coverage.
  • A valid credit and/or background check will be required.
  • A criminal check will be done yearly for all security associates.
  • May be required to obtain a concealed carry permit dependent upon assignment.

Responsibilities

  • Greeting and screening all visitors entering the facilities.
  • Patrolling the facilities and reporting or taking action to correct any breach of the company security policy.
  • Learning all functions of the Security Control Room, including database management and troubleshooting of computerized systems.
  • Learning functions of the Identification Center, including database management and production.
  • Proactively investigating crimes and unusual, suspicious or dangerous incidents and resolving these situations.
  • Executing life safety procedures to protect associates in various emergency situations.
  • Greeting all persons entering or calling the office buildings and providing requested information.
  • Enforcing company security and life safety policies.
  • Responding to emergency situations such as workplace violence, violent offenders, associates stranded in elevators, accidents, fires, medical emergencies, crimes in progress, and alarm notifications.
  • Assisting with emergency procedures and directing public safety officials.
  • Patrolling the buildings to provide physical security and safety protection for the facility and associates.
  • Responding immediately to radio calls to investigate alarms and emergency situations.
  • Patrolling the campus either on bike, foot or in a car.
  • Acting to protect lives and property and prevent criminal acts.
  • Providing a high level of customer contact.
  • Approaching suspicious persons, responding to crimes in progress or being involved in other life-threatening or dangerous situations.
  • Writing initial loss/stolen or incident reports for claims of loss or situations within the facilities.
  • Conducting follow-up investigations including reviewing documents, video, and talking with suspects and victims.
  • Assisting management with investigation of these situations.
  • Testifying in court, preparing reports for court and preserving evidence as needed.
  • Maintaining the facilities access control of associates by card key system.
  • Securing the facilities at the end of a workday and maintaining this secure mode until the facility is accessed for scheduled workday.
  • Operating the access control system to allow or deny access, creating access cards, creating system reports and maintaining the database.
  • Providing associates escorts to and from facilities.
  • Assisting with regularly scheduled building facility inspections of fire extinguishers, standpipe systems, public address systems, elevators and fire alarm systems.
  • Carrying a firearm when on duty (with proper approval) and qualifying annually.
  • Intervening in situations where there is imminent risk of harm to associates or customers (if armed).
  • Assisting with on-the-job training of new security associates at all locations.
  • Providing security awareness and new hire security training to the associate population.
  • Performing courier service to financial institutions for the Nationwide Companies.
  • Monitoring electronic protection systems including alarms, closed circuit television, access control, fire, elevator, intercom and other systems as assigned.
  • Dispatching security, public safety or other personnel to alarm conditions across the country from the alarm monitoring center.
  • Maintaining databases within these systems and providing reports from same.
  • Monitoring alarm systems across the country.
  • Maintaining, troubleshooting hardware systems.
  • Maintaining and modifying software and data.
  • Providing database and activity reports based on alarm activity.
  • Directing vendors during the install process.
  • Frequent communication with end users for training and problem resolution.
  • Performing other responsibilities as assigned.
