About The Position

This application is for a Civil Service Examination (CS2026-052) for the opportunity to be placed on an Eligible List for a future opening as a Protective Services Officer. The role involves ensuring the security of Department of Public Utilities or other City of Cleveland buildings, property, records, and equipment. The officer will take immediate action to protect life and property, perform duties as designated by superiors, and ensure all key installations are secured on a 24-hour basis. An experience evaluation will be conducted based on academic training and relevant experience.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Private Security or Peace Officer certification from the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission required.
  • Valid State of Ohio Driver’s License required.
  • Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 30 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • A 9mm handgun 20-hour certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Under supervision, is responsible for the security of Department of Public Utilities or other City of Cleveland buildings, property, records, and equipment.
  • Takes immediate action to protect life and property within his/her jurisdiction.
  • Performs such duties and works such hours as designated by the Chief of the Public Utilities Police Department or other superior and/or his/her designee.
  • Assures all key assigned installations are secured from outside intrusion on a 24 hour/7 days a week basis.
  • Performs other job-related duties as required.
