Property Underwriter — Programs & Innovation

GRCS, LLCBoston, MA

About The Position

GreenieRE is a mission-driven specialty insurance and reinsurance platform, funded by impact capital and governed by a purpose trust. We exist to make insurance a force for a more sustainable and resilient economy, and to underwrite risks the market has not yet learned to price. We are hiring a property underwriter to build our property franchise across both homeowners and commercial property, reporting directly to the Chief Underwriting Officer. This role is much more than a referral desk. For much of what we intend to write, the submissions do not exist yet — because the product does not exist yet. You will design the product, find the distribution, secure the paper or the panel, and then underwrite it. Part program architect, part underwriter, part commercial builder: closer to a sales engineer than to a traditional underwriting seat. We have an existing appetite for property in the renewables sector, and in areas where we can nudge towards energy efficiency in coverage and claims handling. We are trying to be innovators and first in class on new property coverage that rewards resilience, supports electrification and decarbonization, and closes the protection gaps opening up as buildings and the equipment inside them change faster than the forms that cover them. You will help decide which of those opportunities we pursue, and in what order.

Requirements

  • Substantial property underwriting experience across homeowners and/or commercial property.
  • Evidence that you build rather than administer: a form you drafted, a program you launched, a class you priced first.
  • Commercial presence. You are comfortable across the table from a wholesale broker, a carrier partner, a reinsurer, and a founder — often in the same week.
  • Technical fluency. Engineering or other quantitative background is valued; no advanced degree or actuarial credential is required.
  • Systems thinking. You can hold form language, rating, distribution economics, and capital consequences in mind at once, and design for scale and profitability rather than one deal at a time.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and the willingness to write the first version of something and defend it.

Nice To Haves

  • Program or MGA experience is a strong plus.
  • Surplus lines mechanics
  • Catastrophe modeling
  • Equipment breakdown, inland marine, or builders risk
  • Distributed energy, storage, EV, or data center exposure
  • Experience with a fronting or program carrier
  • Working comfort with AI.

Responsibilities

  • Design programs end to end. Appetite, form and endorsement wording, underwriting guidelines, rating structure, referral triggers, limits and aggregate management.
  • Build the distribution. Wholesale and retail brokers, program administrators, regional carriers, and channel partners.
  • Structure the partnerships. Evaluate and stand up MGA arrangements; negotiate endorsements and supplemental products with admitted carriers; position GreenieRE on reinsurance panels where supporting another carrier’s paper is the faster route to market.
  • Choose the form factor. Standalone policy, endorsement, warranty, etc. : each carries different economics, filings, and sales motion.
  • Own pricing with the CUO and actuarial. Exposure rating where credible data exists; structured judgment, benchmarking, and explicit assumptions where it does not.
  • Build the technology. Data ingestion, third-party risk data, automated triage, quoting APIs, and portfolio monitoring — underwriting judgment encoded in systems, not spreadsheets emailed between people. Candidates should be extremely comfortable with leveraging AI without fully relying on it.
  • Represent GreenieRE externally. Brokers, reinsurers, regulators, industry working groups, and mission-aligned capital.
  • Close the loop. Bind, monitor, learn, revise — in weeks, not quarters.

Benefits

  • Medical/dental/vision/group life insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Unlimited paid time off
  • 12 paid holidays
  • Hybrid work in Greater Boston
  • Quarterly company events
