About The Position

The candidate will function as a Property Custodian for an advanced research and development (R&D) program. The Property Custodian will support the designated Government Property Manager (GPM) for the command/department, exercising direct responsibility, strict operational control, and physical protection over all assigned government personal property and accountable assets. The candidate will establish and maintain highly accurate custodial records, ensure proper barcode tracking, and sign down equipment to sub-custodians or end-users using appropriate hand receipts. The candidate will conduct comprehensive physical inventories, coordinate the drop-off and acquisition of equipment, and promptly initiate reports of survey or Financial Liability Investigations of Property Loss (FLIPL) for missing, damaged, or destroyed property. They will utilize the Defense Property Accountability System (DPAS) to monitor asset life cycles, identify excess equipment for proper disposal or transfer, and ensure strict compliance with SECNAVINST 5200.42 and local command property management instructions. Other duties include providing support in planning, tracking, scheduling, briefing preparation, correspondence, and documentation preparation. Prepare and maintain data products and reports to be used as decision aids, reference material, or source data as required by management. Generate content and support the creation of briefing materials (.ppt slides, etc.). Support leadership and functional teams in responding to various drills, data calls, and requests for information. General support to program teams to include attending meetings and note taking, drafting documents, keeping calendars, printing briefs, creating binder, tracking action items, etc. Other duties relevant to assigned position as determined by the cognizant team lead.

Requirements

  • A Final DoD Top Secret Clearance
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • At least four (4) years of relevant experience

Nice To Haves

  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Experience with Adobe Acrobat
  • Experience with SharePoint style file sharing systems
  • Demonstrated outstanding oral and written communication skills
  • Experience working in a dynamic, schedule constrained, and complex security environment
  • Special Access Program experience is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Maintain Custodial Records: Document and update tracking systems for all accountable personal property within the department.
  • Issue Hand Receipts: Physical sign-down of property to the end-user level to establish personal responsibility.
  • Affix Asset Tags: Place property identification number barcode labels onto incoming accountable equipment.
  • Conduct Inventories: Assist in periodic physical inventory sightings and reconcile discrepancies with the master system.
  • Track Off-Premises Use: Document and maintain records for any equipment temporarily removed from the command for repair or offsite deployment.
  • Report Excess Property: Identify and process equipment that is no longer needed by the unit for transfer or surplus disposal.
  • Report Loss and Damage: Promptly submit formal reports to the PAO for missing, stolen, or damaged government property.
  • Clear Separating Employees: Participate in check-out clearance processing to ensure departing personnel return all assigned gear.
