About The Position

Great American Insurance Group's Financial Institution Services division is seeking a Claims Supervisor to join their team. This role is responsible for coordinating the daily operations of the Claims team, supervising claim investigations, reviewing and approving claim settlements and reserves, and advising team members. The company emphasizes a culture of connection, shared learning, and strong relationships, with employees expected to be on-site four days a week and one day remotely. The Financial Institution Services division provides risk management and product enhancement programs to various lenders and dealers, insuring a wide range of collateral. This position operates under established policies and procedures with limited oversight. The supervisor is responsible for the performance and coaching of their staff, including talent selection, development, and performance management, as well as providing training to new team members. The role requires exceptional analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving abilities, and ensures the team's knowledge of insurance policies, coverage, claims procedures, and industry laws and regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Risk Management and Insurance, Finance, or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Generally, a minimum of 5 years of experience in property claims handling.
  • Typically manages 2 or more reports.
  • Responsible for overseeing team priorities and coordinating daily tasks.
  • Operates under policies and procedures with limited oversight.
  • Exhibits exceptional analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving abilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of or continuing progress toward a professional designation preferred, such as Associate in Claims (AIC).

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates the daily operations of the Claims team, ensuring efficient workflow and productivity.
  • Supervises the investigation of claims to confirm coverage and to determine damages.
  • Reviews and approves appropriate claim settlements/reserves within prescribed authority.
  • Advises team members on handling claim files and extends settlement authority as needed after thorough review.
  • May set reserves and provide recommendations or reports for Corporate Claims or senior management.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Responsible for performance and coaching of staff and has a participatory role in decisions regarding talent selection, development, and performance management.
  • Provides training to new members of the team.
  • Ensures the team is knowledgeable of insurance policies, coverage, and claims procedures, and stays updated on industry laws and regulations.
