About The Position

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Property Accountant to join our growing team. In this role, you will be responsible for the day-to-day accounting operations of an assigned portfolio of residential and commercial properties. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional looking to build a career in real estate accounting while gaining exposure to property operations, financial reporting, budgeting, and audit support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • 0-2 years of accounting experience, preferably within property accounting, real estate, or a related industry.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience using accounting software and financial systems.
  • Solid understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and complete monthly property close workbooks, including: Real estate taxes, Common Area Maintenance (CAM), Insurance, Rental income and other property revenues, Property operating expenses
  • Review and analyze balance sheet and income statement accounts to ensure transactions are recorded accurately.
  • Investigate account fluctuations and identify key financial drivers.
  • Prepare and record journal entries, including accruals related to: Contracts, Work orders, Capital projects, Unpaid expenditures, Utilities
  • Review and approve invoices through the accounts payable system.
  • Assist with the preparation of annual operating budgets.
  • Serve as the primary accounting contact for assigned properties and proactively address accounting-related questions.
  • Process and monitor general ledger reclassifications as needed.
  • Prepare audit workpapers for quarterly reviews and year-end audits.
  • Support external auditors by providing requested documentation and sample selections.
  • Perform additional accounting and financial reporting duties as assigned.
