About The Position

Drives tank truck/bobtail to deliver gasoline, fuel oil, lubricating oil, or liquefied petroleum gas to customers. This role involves contacting and analyzing current/potential customers to inform them of petroleum marketing programs and promote products. The driver will load the truck safely, maintain communication with supervisors, deliver products to customer tanks ensuring correct loading and no overfilling, record deliveries, collect payments, and adhere to company credit policies. Additionally, the position requires monitoring and ordering bulk plant inventory, performing routine vehicle maintenance, and making necessary repairs or installations to related equipment. A valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License with applicable endorsements, DOT physical, and commercial insurability are mandatory.

Requirements

  • A valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License with applicable endorsements, DOT physical and commercial insurability must be maintained at all times.
  • The driver must keep valid endorsements required by the industry in place at all times.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Knowledge of AS 400 accounting and inventory software.
  • CETEP training as required by industry and Heartland Co-op standards.
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Distance vision, Depth perception and Ability to adjust focus.
  • Frequently required to walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and talk or hear.
  • Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and smell.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Loads truck with product, observing required and reasonable safety measures.
  • Maintains telephone or radio contact with supervisor to receive delivery instructions.
  • Delivers product to customers’ tanks making sure correct products are loaded, tanks are not overfilled and safety is observed.
  • Records amount delivered and issues ticket to customer.
  • Collect for accounts that are past due or cash only.
  • Delivers product to customers within the company credit policy and pricing structure.
  • Turns in sales information and money on a routine basis to allow form timely processing.
  • Monitor and record inventory at bulk plant, ordering product as needed.
  • Performs routine maintenance on vehicle.
  • Performs other petroleum related duties.
  • Measures, cuts, threads, and connects pipe to feeder line and installed tank.
  • Trenches line to proper depth where appropriate.
  • Makes necessary repairs or installations and tests equipment to insure performance.
  • Inspects truck equipment and supplies such as tires, lights, brakes, gas, oil, and water.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.
