About The Position

The Projects Engagement Coordinator will play a pivotal role in facilitating effective communication and collaboration between Whitefish River First Nation (WRFN) and Hydro One throughout the lifecycle of the Hanmer x Mississagi Line, the Mississagi x Third Line and the Sudbury to Barrie Line projects. The Project Engagement Coordinator will lead day-to-day project activities, ensuring that community concerns, questions, and interests are addressed and effectively communicated to Hydro One, while also supporting the dissemination of project information to WRFN management and community members. The Projects Engagement Coordinator will facilitate community capacity building, ensuring WRFN community members have access to training and employment opportunities created by the projects. This position requires a highly organized individual with strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to fostering positive relationships between all stakeholders involved.

Requirements

Strong understanding of Hydro One operations and project construction considered an asset.
Thorough knowledge of Indigenous communities, cultures, and perspectives and a strong understanding of functioning within cultural protocols.
Excellent organizational, planning, and time management skills, with the ability to multi-task, produce, and coordinate projects to tight deadlines.
Thorough understanding of large event management and strong financial management skills.
Excellent project management skills with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision and lead within a team setting.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, including developing proposals, presentations, and correspondence, and strong working knowledge of social media tools.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders and maintain relationships.
Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment and utilize analytical and critical thinking skills in a wide variety of situations.
Skilled in managing challenging situations and people and solving issues that may arise.
A high energy level with a determined, positive, and productive attitude.
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Indigenous Studies, Environmental Studies, Business Administration) or equivalent work experience.
Previous experience in electrical, construction contracting or procurement, project coordination and community engagement, or related fields.
Knowledge of Indigenous culture, protocols, and rights, particularly within the context of resource development projects.
Ability to work collaboratively within a team and alone with minimal guidance/supervision.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and project management software is an asset.
Valid driver's license and willingness to travel as required.
Must provide a clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check upon hire.

Responsibilities

Lead day-to-day engagement activities (Project and Lifecycle): Coordinate and oversee engagement activities related to the project lifecycles.
Ensure timely and effective communication between WRFN and Hydro One.
Develop and maintain a collaborative relationship with Hydro One and contractors.
Organize and participate in meetings to identify questions, issues, and concerns.
Support discussions on mitigation measures to address identified issues.
Facilitate internal reports and reviews.
Collaborate with Hydro One: Support the dissemination of project information to WRFN leadership, management and community members.
Collect and relay community comments, issues, and concerns to Hydro One.
Collaborate with Hydro One and contractors to maximize contracting and employment opportunities for WRFN members.
Coordinate relationship with Waasmowin Energy: Act as the primary liaison between WRFN and Waasmowin Energy for the construction of the transmission lines.
Ensure project goals and objectives are aligned with WRFN, Waasmowin Energy, and Hydro One.
Supervise field monitor positions: Oversee the work of environmental and archeological field monitors who will be conducting fieldwork and monitoring project activities.
Provide guidance and support to ensure effective and accurate monitoring and reporting.
Attend and participate in field activities such as environmental surveys, archaeological work, and safety training.
Coordinate community capacity building activities: Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with external training organizations.
Coordinate in-community training opportunities for members.
Maintain a record of community member training and certifications and facilitate access to employment opportunities.
Identify and facilitate career path development within the community.
Develop economic development partnerships: Identify and build relationships with external businesses and organizations for possible project partnerships.
Participate in the development of Memos of Understanding and Joint Ventures with businesses and organizations that will benefit WRFN.
Agreement implementation: Implement, manage, and administer any agreements related to the projects.
Coordinate contracted services and expenses as required.
Facilitate community-led studies, including Indigenous knowledge gathering.
Review and provide comments on project information, including technical reports, permits, and regulatory documents.
