About The Position

Turner Construction is seeking a Project Superintendent with experience in K-12 Education and Municipal market sectors for its Des Moines office. This role involves supervising field construction, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the specified quality. Turner Construction is a leading commercial general contractor with a long history and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. This is not a remote/hybrid position and will be based in a Turner office or project location.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of four years' related training and at least eight years of building construction experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of general and subcontract documents, drawings, specifications, construction means, methods, and materials.
  • Understanding of line and grade and survey methods.
  • Knowledge of construction cost control and basic accounting procedures.
  • Computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite programs.
  • Ability to implement leading-edge technologies such as Building Information Models (BIM) and Lean.
  • Strong management, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of accounting and cost control procedures.

  • Experience in K-12 Education and Municipal market sectors is required.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary liaison with owners, architects, and engineers for day-to-day construction activities.
  • Develop and implement overall project work schedules, including identifying the critical path and expediting critical materials and equipment.
  • Lead, supervise, and develop Turner field staff, including performance appraisals.
  • Ensure strict adherence to ethics and compliance requirements.
  • Develop and manage the overall site safety program and ensure subcontractor compliance with Turner standards and safety codes.
  • Manage and make decisions regarding scheduling, delivery, logistics, quality control, and trade employee staffing.
  • Oversee work among all trades to promote and coordinate project operations.
  • Resolve local area problems related to procedures, precedence, design clarifications, labor, equipment, and schedule.
  • Manage labor relations with subcontractors and Turner trade staff.
  • Implement and oversee mock-ups and associated testing, review, and approval.
  • Ensure all necessary permits and insurance are current for the project term.
  • Act as a liaison to inspection agencies.
  • Perform as Stormwater Compliance Coordinator (SCC) in accordance with Turner's Stormwater Compliance Program.
  • Manage the General Conditions and General Requirements budget.
  • Manage the billing process, including Work-In-Place (WIP), monthly estimates, payrolls, material invoices, and subcontractor payment applications.
  • Ensure work is installed in compliance with and conforms to approved contract documents.
