About The Position

In collaboration with a 30-month project through the Government of Canada, the Ontario Federation of Indigenous Friendship Centres (OFIFC) aims to increase its ability to prevent and address gender-based violence against Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people, with a specific focus on 2SLGBTQQIA+ individuals in Ontario urban centres. This role is crucial for developing frameworks, fostering collaboration, and implementing communication strategies to achieve these objectives.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary diploma in Social Science, or related discipline.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years experience working within a 2SLGBTQQIA+ community.
  • Experience working within an Indigenous community.
  • Previous work experience with and knowledge of issues related to the 2SLGBTQQIA+ community with an understanding of the unique needs of Two-Spirit, Indigequeer and Indigenous 2SLGBTQQIA+ people.
  • Ability to engage in research and strategically develop appropriate resources or programs.
  • Experience in data analysis including both qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, etc.).

  • Valid Driver’s License an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Develop framework of practice that defines and promotes inclusivity within the Friendship Centre movement.
  • Provide recommendations to OFIFC leadership on how to promote and support 2SLGBTQQIA+ community members within the Friendship Centre movement.
  • Engage in review of internal documentation related to 2SLGBTQQIA+ needs.
  • Review data gathering practices and identifies gaps in data collection and research practices related to 2SLGBTQQIA+ needs and gender-based violence supports.
  • Review internal policies and key organizational documents and provide detailed solutions and recommendations for strategic change to OFIFC leadership.
  • Facilitate the implementation of recommendations from the 2SLGBTQQIA+ Sub-working group of the MMIWG2SLGBTQQIA+ National Action Plan within the OFIFC and Friendship Centres.
  • Advise on the development of resources and capacity needs to improve supports for 2SLGBTQQIA+ community within the Friendship Centre movement.
  • Networks and builds relationships across Friendship Centres, with relevant stakeholders, Elders and Knowledge Carriers.
  • Engages in partnership development and facilitates the creation of protocol agreements with external stakeholders to increase capacity of supports to 2SLGBTQQIA+ community members.
  • Promotes wise practices and findings of the framework creation and documentation review.
  • Prepares reports, spreadsheets, presentations, meeting minutes, reports as needed.
  • Provides ongoing input, information, and materials that support internal and external communication efforts about the progress at each Friendship Centre.
  • Develops memos, schedules, organizational templates, reports, briefings, and strategies as needed.
  • Plans and coordinates trainings, workshops or teachings that will enhance their working relationships with people internal or external to OFIFC as needed.
