About The Position

The Project Manager is responsible for the profitability and successful execution of projects, including the quality of work performed, client service, business development, utilization of staff, reputation of the firm, contract management, billing, and project profitability. The role requires maintaining a satisfactory client relationship and the ability to interact with clients in a mature, thoughtful, professional, and pleasant manner. Key characteristics include maintaining an open-door policy, demonstrating the ability to lead, motivate, and train designers, and aiding in the development of technical skills of subordinates. Empathy, patience, understanding, and a genuine interest in others are essential.

Requirements

  • College degree in mechanical, electrical, or architectural engineering with an emphasis in HVAC, building electrical, or plumbing, or fire protection with a minimum of 5 years of experience OR a minimum of 10 years qualified experience without a degree.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Outlook, Word) or related software.
  • Proficient in using office equipment (e.g., computer, copier, etc.).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Dependable and punctual.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain flexibility with workload and project schedules.
  • Ability to effectively meet deadlines.
  • Ability to interact well with clients and co-workers, in the field and the office.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Partner in Charge to identify, evaluate, and pursue priority business development opportunities to increase revenues.
  • Execute projects to the client's satisfaction.
  • Work with Partners and other Project Managers to assess targeted market potential and select target clients.
  • Provide oversight of client/proposal tracking activities, including management and review of Requests For Proposal’s (RFP’s), Statements of Qualifications (SOQ’s), and proposals.
  • Prepare estimated labor requirements, schedules, and other pertinent data.
  • Participate with the Partner in Charge in preparing fee proposals, conducting fee negotiations, and preparing contractual agreements.
  • Manage the project in a professional and economic manner, ensuring familiarity with all agreements between the firm and the client.
  • Ascertain that code checks are made and zoning status is acceptable, and coordinate with proper building officials.
  • Review documents prior to submission to the client for in-house and client ‘milestone’ progress reviews to ensure all documents are in place and submitted.
  • Provide engineering oversight on all engineering disciplines involved in the project.
  • Provide corrective instruction to design staff on engineering issues.
  • Participate in design to a limited extent to complete the project on time and within budget.
  • Ensure that the project meets all requirements of the client and approving agencies, and maintains the firm's standards of quality.
  • Ensure that all services provided are accurate and appropriate, and that charges against projects are reasonable.
  • Maintain adequate records, memos of conversations, and similar documentation.
  • Take necessary administrative action in coordination with the Partner in Charge to assure proper invoicing for services performed.
  • Participate in the evaluation of team members.
  • Maintain a neat and organized work area that allows efficient access to information required by other team members.
  • Continue the learning process by attending seminars and continuing education opportunities.
  • Perform additional assignments as requested/needed.
