About The Position

The Department of Design and Construction Management at UTSC offers a unique opportunity to manage diverse project types within a varied range of buildings, focusing on renovations and additions with budgets typically from $50K to $10M. The department aims to create innovative and timely solutions to enhance the built environment for faculty, students, and staff. Under the general direction of the Director, Architecture, Planning and Project Development, and reporting directly to the Senior Manager, Project Development and Management, the Project Manager serves as the primary contact for assigned projects up to $10M. The incumbent is responsible for the overall implementation of projects from concept to completion, managing different phases, and ensuring projects stay on time and within budget and scope. The Project Manager must understand legislative and ethical requirements governing professional engineers and licensed architects when reviewing design drawings and must conduct themselves with professionalism and ethical conduct.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering or architecture tracking towards professional licensure or equivalent education and experience.
  • Minimum five years of related experience in the construction industry overseeing a range of projects ranging in size and complexity, including some related experience in design and construction.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing construction projects, budget management and timeline forecasts.
  • Computer-based project scheduling/management experience (e.g. MS Project) is required.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Working knowledge of CAD.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills; superior interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to respond to frequently changing priorities.
  • Demonstrated leadership and initiative skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects within strict budget and timeline constraints.

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing project design progress and ensuring appropriate parties review and approve
  • Reviewing and assessing requirements needed to meet project timelines
  • Developing project schedules including milestones, critical path, timelines, deliverables and reporting
  • Developing or modifying project schedules to expedite and/or compress the critical path to meet timelines
  • Ensuring that tendering bid documents are clear and compliant with University procurement policies
  • Implementing change order decisions and adjusting costs of additional fee requirements
  • Verifying the accuracy and completeness of construction award paperwork in accordance with procurement policy
  • Liaising with all stakeholders to ensure budget, deadlines, standards, and scope are met
