About The Position

Performs a variety of construction and project management duties within the Public Works Department. This includes processing invoices, financial tracking, assisting in drafting legislation, construction oversight, various writing assignments, and field duties such as utility locates and construction inspection. The role supports the Public Works Director and provides project management for a wide array of departmental projects.

Requirements

  • Some college courses required.
  • 5 years' experience and working knowledge in construction management, and/or management level experience in the construction trades.
  • General understanding of how municipal government works.
  • Experience with technical research and writing.
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and in writing.
  • Familiarity with computer software systems.
  • Experience with Excel spreadsheets and other functions in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to utilize or learn how to utilize survey equipment.
  • Valid Driver License required.

  • Bachelor's degree preferred, with an emphasis in a STEM-related field.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Project Manager or Assistant Project Manager for departmental projects.
  • Provide limited construction management, administration, and oversight.
  • Process project-related invoices and perform financial tracking.
  • Conduct research and writing assignments regarding City codes related to development standards.
  • Assist with drafting legislation for proposed projects.
  • Conduct research, technical writing, and cost estimating for capital improvement plans (Water CIP, Sewer CIP, Trails Plan, Road Maintenance Plan, ADA Transition Plan(s)).
  • Administer the City's capital projects, including preparing bid documents and processing applications for payment.
  • Conduct utility locates.
  • Provide back-up support for construction inspections as a Permit Technician.
  • Assist with the preparation of procurement documents (Invitations to Bid, Requests for Proposal).
  • Serve as ADA Coordinator for the Department.
  • Support the Department's emergency response efforts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Public Works Director/City Engineer.
