Project Manager, Software Operations

NuroMountain View, CA

About The Position

Nuro is seeking a Project Manager for Software Operations for a 12-month embedded role. This position is ideal for someone passionate about process improvement and identifying and resolving issues within software development workflows. The role involves working closely with the in-house team to refine procedures, rubrics, and classification systems, as well as ensuring the offshore QC vendor team adheres to the same high standards. The successful candidate will have direct access to leadership and the autonomy to drive significant improvements in quality and efficiency. This role directly impacts the reliability of Nuro's autonomy software and its final product.

Requirements

  • 4+ years in project management, operations, process design, or QA in a software or tech environment.
  • A track record of improving procedures, rubrics, or classification frameworks, not just executing against them.
  • Sharp pattern recognition and the communication skills to turn observations into clear recommendations.
  • Strong written communication: your procedures and rubrics leave no room for misreading.
  • Comfort with tools like Notion, Confluence, Airtable, Jira, or similar.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in robotics, autonomy, mapping, or visual software environments.
  • Familiarity with U.S. roadways and driving behavior.
  • Experience coordinating offshore or distributed contractor teams.
  • A background in taxonomy, ontology, or classification system design.
  • Experience running inter-rater reliability or calibration programs.

Responsibilities

  • Turn vague or inconsistent QC procedures into something anyone can execute confidently.
  • Close the gaps where rubrics meet reality and real-world cases don't fit neatly into the framework.
  • Keep every change traceable so the team always knows what improved and why.
  • Audit the classification framework for defects, labeling outputs, and operational findings.
  • Resolve ambiguity and overlap so the taxonomy reflects how the work actually happens.
  • Catch and correct drift before it quietly undermines consistency.
  • Learn the workflow from the inside: tools, handoffs, edge cases, and the friction nobody has documented yet.
  • Surface patterns only visible up close: the skipped steps, the inconsistent calls, the rubric that doesn't quite fit.
  • Turn those observations into a regular cadence of clear, actionable recommendations to leadership.
  • Keep the offshore QC team current on procedures, rubrics, and taxonomy.
  • Run calibration sessions that close the gap between how standards are written and how they're applied.
  • Build relationships with vendor account managers so problems surface early, not late.
  • Own documentation that is clear, current, and built to outlast any one person.
  • Roll out changes so they land consistently across every team that needs them.

Benefits

  • Base pay range: $87,000-$118,000 annually
  • 12-month term position
  • Celebrates differences and is committed to a diverse workplace that fosters inclusion and psychological safety for all employees.
  • Equal opportunity employer.
