About The Position

This is a hybrid position that is based in our Chicago/O’Hare Area office. Applicants must live within a 100-mile radius of home office to be considered for the role. As a Project Manager, People and Project Management at the Society of Actuaries, you’ll lead cross-functional projects that support organizational priorities and strategic initiatives. You’ll partner with stakeholders across departments, guide teams through complex work, and help ensure projects are delivered on time, aligned to goals, and positioned for success. This role is ideal for someone who has truly owned projects from start to finish, can lead through influence rather than authority, and brings strong judgment, adaptability, and emotional intelligence to every interaction.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree recommended.
  • A minimum of 3 years of project management experience, including leading complex, cross-functional projects from initiation through delivery.
  • Demonstrated project ownership and the ability to drive outcomes, not just support project administration.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, including experience working with senior leaders and cross-functional teams; exposure to committees or volunteer-led environments is a plus.
  • Ability to lead through influence, build alignment, and operate effectively in a matrixed organization.
  • Strong communication, listening, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with sound judgment and adaptability.
  • Experience in a nonprofit, association, or mission-driven environment preferred.
  • PMP strongly preferred; CAPM or equivalent credential is also valued.
  • Familiarity with Monday.com or similar project management tools is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead cross-functional projects from planning through delivery, ensuring alignment to organizational goals and successful outcomes.
  • Bring structure and clarity to complex or evolving initiatives by building practical project plans, timelines, and follow-up actions.
  • Partner with stakeholders across departments, senior leadership, and volunteer groups to align priorities, solve problems, and move work forward.
  • Identify risks, navigate challenges proactively, and maintain momentum across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Facilitate meetings, support decision-making, and provide clear, concise updates to stakeholders and leaders.
  • Contribute to PMO standards, tools, and reporting practices that strengthen consistency, visibility, and execution.
