About The Position

SLS Consultants is a rapidly growing real estate development and construction consulting firm specializing in the Data Center, Advanced Manufacturing, Life Science, and Healthcare sectors. We are seeking a Project Manager (Mechanical) in Kansas City, MO, to support critical retrofit, infrastructure, and operational improvement projects within active data center environments. This role is ideal for a Project Manager from a Mechanical Contractor background looking to transition into the Data Center industry. You will collaborate with leading technology companies, work on technically challenging projects, and benefit from significant visibility and long-term career growth. The client prefers a PM with strong mechanical expertise to oversee mechanical, electrical, and fiber infrastructure projects.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of Project Management experience within mechanical construction.
  • Background working for a Mechanical Contractor strongly preferred.
  • Experience managing HVAC, piping, plumbing, industrial, mission critical, or large-scale commercial projects.
  • Strong client-facing communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to lead complex projects in fast-paced, highly technical environments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical-focused construction and infrastructure projects within active data center environments.
  • Manage project scope, budget, schedule, procurement, and stakeholder communications.
  • Coordinate mechanical, electrical, and fiber teams to ensure successful project execution.
  • Drive safety, quality, and operational excellence across all project phases.
  • Partner directly with owners, contractors, vendors, and field teams to deliver complex retrofit and upgrade projects.
  • Identify project risks and proactively develop mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure projects are completed while maintaining operational continuity in critical facilities.
  • Support long-term infrastructure improvement and capacity expansion initiatives.
