Project Manager - Major Hazards Research & Testing
About The Position
This is a unique Project Manager role within DNV's Spadeadam Research & Testing Centre, a world-leading facility for major hazards research. Unlike conventional roles, this position involves becoming an integral part of multidisciplinary delivery teams, working hands-on with engineers, scientists, technicians, subcontractors, and clients to deliver complex and unusual research and testing programs. The projects span critical challenges in the energy, industrial, and critical infrastructure sectors, including hydrogen safety, high-pressure gas releases, fire and explosion research, battery energy storage, pipeline safety, and infrastructure resilience. Projects often require the design, construction, and operation of bespoke experimental facilities. The role demands strong communication, collaboration, practical judgment, and the ability to unite diverse teams. The Project Manager will be responsible for delivering projects safely, effectively, and commercially, maintaining high customer satisfaction, managing customer relationships, overseeing project governance, maintaining delivery schedules, monitoring commercial performance, and supporting decision-making throughout the project lifecycle. The role offers significant responsibility and visibility, with the opportunity to influence projects with global impact.
Requirements
- Strong project leadership, with experience planning and delivering projects safely, effectively, and commercially from initiation through to completion.
- The ability to bring diverse stakeholders together, building trusted relationships with customers, technical specialists, subcontractors and colleagues while maintaining focus on successful delivery.
- Sound commercial judgement, balancing competing priorities, managing risk, making effective decisions and taking ownership in dynamic and sometimes uncertain environments.
- Comfortable working alongside technical specialists, asking the right questions and helping multidisciplinary teams achieve successful outcomes.
- Security and compliance with statutory requirements in the countries in which we operate is essential.
- Background checks will be conducted on all final candidates as part of the offer process, in accordance with applicable country-specific laws and practices.
Nice To Haves
- Experience within energy, engineering, infrastructure, construction, manufacturing, process industries, defence or other technically complex sectors.
- PRINCE2, PMP or equivalent project management qualifications.
- NEC contract experience.
- Ability to obtain and maintain UK Security Clearance.
