About The Position

Duke University is seeking a Project Plan Manager to support key initiatives within Duke’s Health & Welfare benefits programs, including medical, retiree health, and pharmacy plans. In this role, you’ll plan, coordinate, and deliver projects that ensure benefits programs are well‑managed, compliant, and responsive to the needs of Duke employees and retirees. You’ll work closely with Health & Welfare Plan Managers, the FPQA team, internal partners, and external vendors to manage timelines, budgets, and deliverables. This role offers the opportunity to grow into a junior plan manager, gaining hands‑on experience with large‑scale health and welfare programs while contributing to meaningful, high‑impact work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, business, or a related field (master’s degree preferred).
  • 5 years of experience in the employee benefits field, including at least 2 years of project management experience.
  • Proficiency with computer software and project management tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate cross‑functional stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.

Nice To Haves

  • 3–5 years of experience supporting large‑scale health & welfare benefit programs.
  • Advanced familiarity with project management software.
  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations related to employee benefits.
  • Experience supporting plan renewals, marketing, benchmarking, or survey initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, manage, and deliver multiple projects supporting Health & Welfare benefit programs.
  • Define project scope, goals, timelines, and success criteria in collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Develop project plans, communication strategies, and budget proposals.
  • Track milestones, manage dependencies, and proactively address risks or changes in scope.
  • Communicate project status, deliverables, and expectations to team members and leadership.
  • Partner with vendors, consultants, and internal teams to keep initiatives on track.
  • Conduct post‑project reviews and develop best practices for future initiatives.
  • Serve as backup support for Health Plan and Voluntary Plans Manager functions as needed.
