About The Position

Kearney & Company is seeking a Senior Manager to support Federal government clients managing a complex portfolio of compliance initiatives. The role involves collaborating with the client and managing a team to provide strategic consulting, communications, project management, and financial management support. The portfolio is within the Department-level CFO organization, offering agency-wide support for financial management policy, corrective action planning, internal controls, audit readiness, debt management, executive leadership support, and annual public accountability reporting. This position requires interaction with diverse stakeholders.

Requirements

  • BS/BA from an accredited college or university required
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant Federal financial management experience and knowledge
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in writing and verbally.
  • Excellent skills/training with Microsoft Office products, including Word, PowerPoint, Project, and Excel.
  • Experience working with executive leadership
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an U.S. security clearance (requires U.S. citizenship)

Nice To Haves

  • CPA, Project Management Professional (PMP), and/or Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM) certification(s)
  • Experience in federal financial statement audits, financial reporting processes, and internal control requirements (or a combination).
  • Experience researching and applying FASAB, OMB, and Treasury requirements including OMB Circular A-123 & A-136 and/or GAO’s Standards for Internal Control in the Federal Government (Green Book)

Responsibilities

  • Interface with clients on a day-to-day basis during onsite visits to their Washington, D.C. office (twice a week) and remotely via MS Teams
  • Be available during year-end reporting to support clients needs outside core business hours and some weekends
  • Lead discussions/briefings with client representatives, demonstrating excellent listening and presentation skills.
  • Manage a remote Kearney team providing strategic and technical direction, support, guidance and coaching.
  • Bring a strong executive presence to effectively consult with and support senior leaders who are making time-sensitive, high-impact decisions, ensuring clarity, confidence, and alignment in support of an organizational restructuring.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor, using influence and relationship-building to drive progress without direct authority.
  • Navigate politically sensitive environments with professionalism and discretion.
  • Engage senior executives in strategic discussions to secure alignment on project priorities and organizational objectives.
  • Provide strategic coaching to client stakeholders and Kearney personnel, helping them work through environmental stressors and make informed decisions in support of the client’s goals.
  • Initiate communications, requests, and follow-ups with various stakeholders and the client on the status of tasks, information, and artifacts using the appropriate professional tone and communication medium.
  • Develop and manage highly visible work products that are utilized by political appointees, OMB, Treasury, Congress, and the American public.
  • Maintain and implement a rigorous quality control process for government deliverables.
  • Promote and maintain a flexible project structure that can adapt to evolving priorities, stakeholder needs, and organizational dynamics without losing momentum or focus.
  • Provide on the job feedback to Kearney team members to promote professional growth and/or address performance challenges/issues.
  • Identify and actively manage a pipeline of opportunities with a particular focus on HHS. Key responsibilities include maintaining regular engagement and networking with federal and industry stakeholders, attending industry events, and monitoring relevant agency and market updates.
  • Support and/or lead the development of RFIs, RFQs, and other early‑stage capture responses, translating agency signals and market insights into actionable intelligence that strengthens our pursuit of opportunities.
