Construction Estimator (Client Opening - E.C. Korneffel)
About The Position
E. C. Korneffel Co. is a Marine, Bridge, and Piling Contractor based in Trenton, Michigan, serving clients since 1950. The company provides heavy civil construction services from the design and bid phase through project completion and owner acceptance. The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for heavy civil construction projects, including marine, bridge, and piling/drilling work. This role analyzes project plans, specifications, and site conditions to develop detailed bids, while collaborating closely with engineering, project management, subcontractors, and suppliers. The Estimator plays a critical role in supporting business development efforts by identifying risks, evaluating project costs, and ensuring the company submits well-informed, competitive proposals.
Requirements
- Knowledge of heavy civil construction estimating practices, including cost analysis, quantity takeoffs, and bid preparation
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management from an Accredited University
- Minimum of Five (5) years of relevant experience in heavy civil construction estimating or engineering
- Ability to occasionally travel to job sites, pre-bid meetings, and company locations as needed
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 Lbs. occasionally (e.g., plans, documents, or office materials)

Responsibilities
- Search for and track bid opportunities daily in coordination with senior estimators/engineers
- Review, analyze, and interpret project plans, specifications, and bid documents
- Perform quantity takeoffs for labor, materials, and equipment
- Prepare detailed cost estimates and bid proposals
- Evaluate, qualify, and solicit pricing from subcontractors and suppliers
- Assist with bid strategy development and risk evaluation
- Create project budgets upon successful contract awards
- Support project handoff from estimating to operations as needed
