About The Position

The purpose of the Project Engineer is to assist the Project Manager and the Project Superintendent in completing assigned projects in a quality manner, within the required timeframe, and within the specified budget. The Project Engineer is responsible for coordinating engineering and construction functions as they relate to the project, managing construction documents, and representing Miles-McClellan to subcontractors and suppliers. This role involves ensuring projects are completed efficiently and effectively, adhering to all contractual obligations and company standards.

Requirements

  • Preliminary knowledge of construction methods, materials, and installation procedures.
  • Preliminary knowledge of building code requirements.
  • Preliminary knowledge of construction costs.
  • Preliminary knowledge of estimating.
  • Preliminary knowledge of engineering principles.
  • Ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing.
  • B.S. Degree in engineering, architecture, or construction management.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Project Manager and Project Superintendent in completing assigned projects.
  • Coordinate engineering and construction functions related to the project.
  • Obtain plans and specifications and distribute them to subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Submit for and obtain building permits and any other required permits.
  • Assist with obtaining the Notice of Commencement and any Notice of Furnishing.
  • Work with the Project Manager on project, enclosure, and site work schedules, and update them as needed.
  • Prepare submittal, delivery, and finish schedules.
  • Make necessary phone calls to obtain information or expedite approvals/decisions.
  • Participate in pre-construction meetings and prepare/distribute minutes.
  • Assist Project Superintendent with miscellaneous and rental purchases.
  • Review submittals and shop drawings for conformance to contract documents.
  • Expedite submittal and shop drawing review from the Architect and/or Engineer.
  • Work with the Project Superintendent on weekly scheduling.
  • Assist the Project Superintendent in obtaining Miles-McClellan labor or expediting subcontractor labor.
  • Assist the Project Manager with invoices to the owner.
  • Expedite invoices from subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Conduct trade pre-construction meetings and weekly coordination meetings with subcontractors.
  • Issue bulletins and expedite pricing from subcontractors and suppliers based on bulletins.
  • Maintain bulletin log.
  • Obtain owner change order pricing and deliver to the architect for review.
  • Follow up with the Architect for approval of change orders.
  • Issue change orders to subcontractors and suppliers after Project Manager review and approval.
  • Issue cost adjustments.
  • Forward requests for information (RFIs) to the Architect and maintain the RFI log.
  • Distribute Architect's replies to all involved trades.
  • Assist in negotiating problems with the Owner, Architect, Engineer, Subcontractor, and Suppliers.
  • Help Project Superintendent with as-built drawings and forward them to appropriate parties upon job completion.
  • Participate in Project Team operations meetings and other impactful meetings.
  • Update plans and specifications with addenda, bulletins, or RFIs.
  • Develop and distribute punch lists to subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Coordinate punch list meetings with subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Coordinate necessary paperwork, approvals, and personnel for life safety meetings.
  • Obtain occupancy permits and forward originals to the Owner.
  • Work with the Project Manager on the final invoice and retainage request.
  • Schedule required Owner training with appropriate personnel.
  • Participate in internal debriefing meetings.
  • Follow up on any warranty work as needed.
  • Complete OSHA 10-Hour safety training.
