About The Position

SCS is seeking an experienced project engineer for its Coconut Creek and/or West Palm Beach office to support its solid waste practice. The role involves delivering engineering services to private and municipal clients in the landfill, landfill gas, compost, and solid waste management sectors. The project engineer will tackle innovative solutions for stormwater management, industrial wastewater treatment, air quality improvement, landfill gas systems, environmental compliance, permitting, design, construction, operations, and environmental monitoring. This position offers opportunities for advanced training, leadership, and hands-on experience in both field and office settings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil, Environmental, or Geotechnical Engineering, or related major.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant civil or environmental experience.
  • Competent with using MS Office and other computer software normally used in environmental consulting.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) required, or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment.
  • Valid driver’s license with a driving record in good standing.

Nice To Haves

  • Consulting experience, business specific to the solid waste industry, including landfill gas management and design, air compliance, and landfill design and permitting.
  • AutoCAD experience.

Responsibilities

  • Support civil and environmental project work including landfill and landfill gas system permitting and design, construction plans, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Apply engineering and scientific principles and practices in solid waste assignment areas and related fields.
  • Manage projects and personnel to meet client and SCS expectations.
  • Make independent decisions on engineering or scientific problems and methods, plan and coordinate work, and represent SCS at meetings and conferences.
  • Perform field work including surveys/data gathering, construction quality assurance, inspections, sample collection, and drilling oversight.
  • Conduct office-based tasks such as CAD drafting, mathematical calculations, report writing, creating site plans and facility diagrams, and preparing permit applications.
  • Engage in business development activities including proposal preparation, client meetings, and attending industry conferences/trade shows.
  • Receive technical guidance on complex problems and supervisory approval on plans or projects.
  • Complete quality control reviews on all work products prior to submission.
  • Prepare calculations for reports and design documents.
  • Review laboratory data and prepare compliance monitoring reports.
  • Ensure adherence to client and company policies, including health and safety, security, and ethics.
