About The Position

SCS Engineers is seeking an experienced Project Engineer for their Coconut Creek and/or West Palm Beach office to join their solid waste practice. This role involves delivering engineering services to private and municipal clients in the landfill, landfill gas, compost, and solid waste management sectors. The engineer will work on projects focused on stormwater management, industrial wastewater treatment, air quality improvement, landfill gas systems, environmental compliance, permitting, design, construction, operations, and environmental monitoring. The position offers opportunities for advanced training, leadership, and hands-on experience in both field and office settings, contributing to sustainable environmental protection practices and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil, Environmental, or Geotechnical Engineering, or related major required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant civil or environmental experience required.
  • Competent with using MS Office and other computer software normally used in environmental consulting.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) required, or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment.
  • Valid driver’s license with a driving record in good standing required.

Nice To Haves

  • Consulting experience, business specific to the solid waste industry, including landfill gas management and design, air compliance, and landfill design and permitting, etc. preferred.
  • AutoCAD experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Reduce greenhouse gas emissions and support civil and environmental project work.
  • Landfill and landfill gas system permitting and design, including construction plans, specifications and construction documents.
  • Apply intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering and scientific principles and practices in solid waste assignment areas and related fields.
  • Manage projects and personnel to meet both client and SCS expectations.
  • Make decisions independently on engineering or scientific problems and methods, plan and coordinate work, and represent the company at meetings and conferences.
  • Field work in varied terrain and weather, including surveys/data gathering, construction quality assurance, inspections, sample collection, drilling oversight, etc.
  • Office-based tasks include CAD drafting, mathematical calculations, report writing, creating site plans and facility diagrams, permit applications, etc.
  • Business development including proposal preparation, meeting with clients, and attending industry related conferences/trade shows.
  • Receive technical guidance on unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval on proposed plans or projects.
  • Complete quality control reviews on all work products (reports, design plans, design calculations, data, etc.) prior to submission.
  • Prepare calculations for reports and in support of design documents as requested.
  • Review laboratory data and prepare compliance monitoring reports.
  • Ensure adherence to client and company policies in all activities including health and safety, security, and ethics.
