About The Position

Stantec is seeking a Transportation Project Engineer - Roadway in their Nashville, Tennessee office. This role involves applying creativity to a variety of projects including urban and rural roadways, freeways and interchanges, multi-modal facilities, and alternative intersection designs. The position offers the opportunity to work on initiatives such as Complete Streets, Safety Improvements, Alternative Delivery Projects, and Planning and Environmental Linkages (PEL) studies, contributing to safer, more sustainable, and more connected communities. This role has a high potential for growth into a leadership position within Stantec's Transportation group in Tennessee. The office fosters collaboration and education across diverse services, and exceptional interpersonal communication skills and strong initiative are essential for delivering impactful and innovative Roadway Projects throughout the Southeast Region. This role has the ability to be on a hybrid work schedule if needed.

Requirements

  • Professional Engineer registered in the State of Tennessee or the ability to obtain licensure within 6 months.
  • Proficient in design of transportation/civil engineering projects including preparation of plans and specifications, and cost estimates for all aspects of roadway construction.
  • Ability to lead one or more design teams through all phases of project production.
  • Ability to perform and/or oversee the preparation of roadway design plans including geometric layout, drainage design, and earthwork computations.
  • Ability to work with other transportation related disciplines to incorporate bridges and / or other structural elements, traffic signals and / or other traffic control elements, Intelligent Transportation Systems and roadway lighting into a comprehensive plan set.
  • Proficient in planning and report preparation.
  • Proficient in traffic control plan production and sequence of construction for roadway projects including Transportation Management Plans, temporary signing, striping and barricades, and detour plans.
  • Sufficient experience to fulfill construction support services such as plan changes, responses to Requests for Information, and shop drawing reviews.
  • Comfortable working collaboratively with team members virtually.
  • Bachelor’s or higher Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in the field of Civil Engineering with preference given to transportation experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Recent experience planning and developing Roadway projects in Microstation, Geopak and OpenRoads is desired.
  • Thorough knowledge and interpretation of transportation industry standards and guidance i.e. AASHTO, MUTCD, FHWA.
  • Experience with TDOT Roadway Design Guidelines and Project Delivery Network is desired.
  • Professional Engineer is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform as project manager, and/or technical specialist on roadway engineering projects, responsible for invoicing, managing, and monitoring financial performance of project budgets.
  • Serve as a technical specialist and consultant to other engineering disciplines on transportation-related projects.
  • Prepare reports and develop planning documents.
  • Communicate with clients and stakeholders to understand client’s needs.
  • Identify and analyze the principal design features and major design alternatives that satisfy the project’s purpose and the client’s needs.
  • Produce detailed, high-quality design plans, specifications, and estimates in accordance with applicable procedures and standards.
  • Peer review plans and provide quality control reviews of technical specifications, contract documents, and estimates.
  • Mentor junior staff in technical design elements and the development of project documents.
  • Actively identify project pursuit opportunities, manage client relationships, develop new clients, and assist in the preparation of proposals to win those pursuits.
