Our Materials Technology team within Corporate Engineering is responsible for the development and commercialization of products that leverage advanced materials — thermosets, coatings, composites, thermoplastics, and metallic alloys — for Victaulic and its subsidiaries. At Victaulic, we're committed to constructing a better world for and with our people. We're looking for a Project Engineer – Materials Technology to join our Corporate Engineering team in Easton, PA. In this role, you'll drive the development and commercialization of products that leverage advanced materials — thermosets, coatings, composites, thermoplastics, and metallic alloys — across our product lines. You'll gain hands-on experience in plastic part product design, polymer processing, and instrumental analysis of chemicals and polymers (FTIR, DMA, DSC, TGA, Tensile, and more), while leading multi-departmental teams from detailed design through commercialization.

Requirements

  • BS in Chemical, Materials, or Polymer Engineering (MS a plus)
  • BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering with experience in rubber/elastomers or plastics/polymers will also be considered
  • 2–5 years of experience in material selection, testing, and validation preferred
  • Knowledge of polymeric material testing and failure analysis
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills to resolve technical issues
  • Excellent verbal/written communication and presentation skills
  • Strong computer skills in standard MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
  • Able to travel globally as required, up to 20%

Nice To Haves

  • Coating materials selection and testing knowledge
  • Thermoplastic and thermoset materials knowledge, from commodity grades to complex engineering grades
  • Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for part optimization with polymer-based products and materials; Abaqus or Ansys preferred
  • Experience running analysis with Mold Flow Insight

Responsibilities

  • Lead concept generation and develop specific design ideas to satisfy product concepts
  • Model concepts through drawings and/or hardware, and present and communicate ideas clearly to stakeholders
  • Partner with Marketing and Sales to refine concepts to meet customer requirements
  • Estimate initial design costs and prepare project and/or procurement authorizations
  • Formulate new polymers that meet customer specifications
  • Participate in supplier selection, in-house or outsourced
  • Oversee prototyping and testing against requirements, including thermal, mechanical, and chemical analysis
  • Solve design problems and resolve tolerance issues
  • Scrutinize and review detailed cost estimates
  • Lead design reviews to confirm customer and performance requirements are met
  • Participate in tooling selection and approve tooling based on sample results
  • Support evaluation of pilot production runs and resolve production issues
  • Prepare and approve technical literature, and train teams on new products
