About The Position

Project Engineer – Energy Civil/Structural - Rochester, NY Rochester, NY is home to Fisher's headquarters and a broad multidisciplinary engineering team supporting utility, infrastructure, and energy projects. The region provides a strong talent base for civil engineers with experience in utility corridors, renewable energy, site development, and project permitting. As a Project Engineer on Fisher's Energy Group, you'll lead civil engineering design for utility and renewable energy projects, including pipelines, transmission lines, solar and wind farms, substations, and Battery Energy Storage facilities. You'll work with multidisciplinary teams, utilities, renewable energy developers, and infrastructure owners to move projects from design through construction. This role gives you the opportunity to own technical work, influence project outcomes, and mentor junior engineers while working across a range of energy infrastructure projects. You'll build on your civil engineering experience through hands-on design, permitting, construction support, quality control, and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Requirements

• B.S. degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
• 10–15 years of civil engineering experience, preferably in utility or renewable energy design.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or ability to obtain it.
• Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Experience with linear utility corridor projects.
• Experience with local zoning and planning reviews, DOT permitting, and NYS Environmental Quality Reviews (SEQR).
• Understanding of all aspects of civil design plan preparation and construction bid packages.
• Proven ability to deliver quality work through critical thinking, problem-solving, and sound judgment.
• Ability to own projects, prioritize effectively, and meet deliverables and deadlines.
• Strong collaboration, communication, integrity, respect, and active listening skills.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities and respond constructively to feedback.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with MicroStation.
• Familiarity with the ORES permitting process.
• Experience with land development, utility, or renewable energy projects, including design and permitting.
• Experience with PADEP permitting and the local PA Township SALDO process.
• Experience providing technical direction, quality control, motivation, and mentorship to project team members.
• Curiosity and an improvement-minded approach to developing better solutions.

Responsibilities

• Lead civil engineering technical design tasks for utility and renewable energy projects.
• Develop design plans, drawings, specifications, reports, and cost estimates.
• Provide technical support during construction through site visits, design clarification, and design review.
• Prepare SWPPPs and stormwater management designs in accordance with regulatory requirements.
• Coordinate engineering tasks with project scope, schedule, and budget and support project managers with schedules, documentation, and client presentations.
• Maintain accurate project records, including design documents, progress reports, and budget information.
• Ensure designs comply with state and local regulations, safety codes, and industry standards while providing quality control, direction, and technical support to project team members.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders and mentor junior engineers in project work and technical development.
