About The Position

The Civil/Structural Engineer designs steel joists, joist girders, steel decking, structural steel, and connections in accordance with applicable industry standards and codes. The role supports projects such as retail buildings, schools, and warehouses, and provides engineering direction to detailing, design, sales, and production departments. The engineer interprets contract documents and communicates with Architects, Engineers of Record, and fabricators about product design requirements. The role also involves becoming conversant in AISC, AISI, SJI, and SDI codes and specifications.

Requirements

• B.S. in Civil Engineering or equivalent for Civil P.E. qualification.
• Minimum Civil E.I.T. certification, with a desire to become a Civil P.E.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

• Prior steel joist industry or structural steel design experience.
• Civil P.E. certification.

Responsibilities

• Design joists, joist girders, and steel decking according to Steel Joist Institute and Steel Deck Institute standards.
• Design roofs and floors for projects including retail buildings, schools, and warehouses.
• Design structural steel and connections to applicable codes and standards.
• Provide engineering direction to detailing, design, sales, and production departments.
• Interpret contract documents and communicate with Architects, Engineers of Record, and fabricators on product design requirements.
• Become conversant in AISC, AISI, SJI, and SDI codes and specifications.
