Structural/Civil Engineer

Brigham Young University•Provo, UT

About The Position

The Structural/Civil Engineer provides structural and civil engineering services for BYU Physical Facilities, with approximately half of the work focused on structural engineering and half on campus civil engineering design and project management. The role serves as an owner-side technical resource, reviews work prepared by outside structural consultants, performs in-house structural analysis and design for campus projects, and prepares, signs, and seals engineering documents within the engineer’s responsible charge and competence. Civil engineering work includes planning and designing campus site and utility improvements; preparing plans, specifications, cost estimates, and bid documents; managing work orders and projects through design, construction, and closeout; reviewing consultant documents; and coordinating consultants, contractors, campus stakeholders, and public agencies. The position ensures work complies with applicable codes, BYU standards, project requirements, budgets, and schedules while protecting the health, safety, and welfare of the campus community and visiting public. The role includes structural reviews and design for new construction, renovations, repairs, equipment supports, foundations, and other campus projects. Civil design may include streets, sidewalks, parking lots, grading, drainage, storm and sanitary sewer, culinary water, irrigation, and related infrastructure. The engineer manages project scope, schedule, budget, procurement, construction documentation, and stakeholder communication from planning through project closeout.
