About The Position

This position is for a Project Development Coordinator for Special Events, focusing on the Bronx Operations. The role involves coordinating multiple aspects of special event planning, assisting the Borough Chief’s office, and overseeing the creation, development, and production of Parks-produced events. The coordinator will also review and process special event permit requests, work closely with various city divisions, prepare reports, conduct site visits, and maintain event records. The role requires clear communication with staff and the public, and may involve weekend, occasional night, and holiday work.

Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
  • High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
  • Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.

Responsibilities

  • Under general direction, with wide latitude for independent initiative and judgment, coordinate multiple aspects of special event planning for the Bronx Operations.
  • Assist the Borough Chief’s office with the coordination of special events held in Bronx parks; review proposals, conduct site visits, assess site fees and manage events on site.
  • Coordinate the creation, development and production of Parks-produced events. Supervise subordinate personnel or act as a team leader.
  • Review and process special event permit requests; provide follow-up as needed.
  • Work closely with the Bronx Borough Commissioner’s Office, Parks’ Operations, Citywide Special Events, Enforcement, Revenue and Legal divisions to ensure events are managed properly.
  • Prepare reports, maintain records and documentation pertaining to special events.
  • Conduct frequent site visits and enforce Parks & Recreation rules and regulations to audit permit holders.
  • Maintain yearly event statistical information and event filing system.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with staff and the public. Ensure that all requests and concerns are resolved.
  • Assist with other tasks as directed by the Bronx Chief of Operations.
  • Work schedule includes weekend work in season and occasional nights and holidays.
