About The Position

Morris & Ritchie Associates, Inc. (MRA) is seeking an experienced Survey Project Coordinator / Survey Crew Chief to join our Wilmington, North Carolina office. This is an excellent opportunity for a surveying professional who enjoys a combination of field and office responsibilities and is interested in continuing to grow toward a leadership role and eventual Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) licensure. We are looking for someone with a strong background leading survey crews who can also contribute to office-based survey work, including data processing, deed and boundary research, calculations, drafting, and coordination with surveyors, engineers, project managers, and clients.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of progressive surveying experience , including significant experience in the field.
  • Experience serving as a Survey Crew Chief, Party Chief, Survey Technician, or similar role.
  • A strong combination of field and office surveying experience is required
  • Experience with boundary, topographic, construction, right-of-way, ALTA/NSPS, and/or land development surveys.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Trimble S series and Trimble Access or similar surveying/drafting software.
  • Knowledge of deed research, boundary analysis, field data processing, and survey calculations.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with office and field teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's or bachelor's degree in Surveying, Surveying Engineering Technology, Geomatics, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field.
  • Land Surveyor in Training (LSIT/SIT) certification or equivalent.
  • Actively working toward Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) licensure.
  • Candidates who are close to obtaining their PLS license or are on a clear path toward licensure are especially encouraged to apply.
  • Interest in growing into a Survey Project Manager, Survey Department leadership, or Professional Land Surveyor role.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and perform a variety of field surveys, including boundary, topographic, ALTA, construction stakeout, and land development surveys.
  • Operate and maintain modern surveying equipment
  • Coordinate field activities, schedules, equipment, and personnel to support multiple projects.
  • Download, process, organize, and review field data for accuracy and completeness.
  • Perform deed research, boundary analysis, and property research.
  • Assist with survey calculations, map preparation, plats, and other survey deliverables.
  • Work closely with Professional Land Surveyors, engineers, project managers, and field staff to ensure projects are completed accurately and on schedule.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior survey staff.
  • Communicate with clients, contractors, municipalities, and other project stakeholders as needed.
