About The Position

Metro is seeking a Project Coordinator to plan, organize, and deliver facility projects and support the development and implementation of larger capital improvement projects and programmatic initiatives within the Oregon Zoo. This role involves coordinating planning, design, procurement, construction, and close-out activities for various project types, including facility maintenance, repair, renovations, and improvements. The Project Coordinator will ensure projects align with scope, schedule, and budget, and will support strategic initiatives such as sustainability, technology, accessibility, and safety. Key responsibilities include preparing project scopes, budgets, and schedules; assisting with procurement and contract administration; coordinating consultants, contractors, and staff; collaborating with Zoo departments to minimize operational impacts; monitoring field activities; reviewing submittals; tracking progress; and maintaining accurate documentation using project management tools. The role also involves contributing to process improvements, promoting collaboration, and supporting planning and reporting efforts.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree or higher in construction management, engineering, architecture, facilities management, telecommunications, or a related field AND 5 years progressively responsible project management experience in a wide variety of construction and communications trades, including "hands on" experience, field construction project coordination
  • Any combination of education and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the classification duties and responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of standard and specialized construction and telecommunications contracting practices, methods, and techniques, including project management.
  • Knowledge of design processes, including coordination and review of plans, specifications, and estimates.
  • Knowledge of telecommunications systems and cable infrastructure development.
  • Ability to coordinate project activities within active exhibit and public environments.
  • Knowledge of building codes, conditional use, permitting, and other land-use elements.
  • Skill in operating computers and associated software, radios, and cell phones.
  • Ability to represent the Zoo’s construction and maintenance management programs and oversee contractor performance.
  • Ability to track project costs and monitor expenditures.
  • Skill in planning, organizing, coordinating, and evaluating multiple projects simultaneously with competing schedules and operational constraints.
  • Ability to work independently, as a team leader, and as a member of a team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and deliver facility projects from planning and procurement through construction and close-out, ensuring work aligns with established scope, schedule, and budget parameters.
  • Support the development and implementation of larger capital improvement projects and strategic programs—such as sustainability, technology, accessibility, and safety—by coordinating assigned tasks, maintaining documentation, and supporting communication across project teams under the direction of a supervisor.
  • Prepare project scopes, budgets, and schedules; assists with procurement, solicitation, and contract administration; and coordinates the work of consultants, contractors, and Zoo staff to ensure compliance with public contracting rules and Metro standards.
  • Collaborate across Zoo departments to plan and schedule work that minimizes operational impacts to guests, staff, animal care; monitors field activities, reviews submittments, tracks progress and maintains accurate documentation and reports using enterprise software and other project management tools.
  • Contribute to process improvements, promotes collaboration, and supports planning and reporting efforts that advance Zoo operations and strategic goals.
  • Maintain accurate project records, logs, and reports to support project decision-making and compliance with Metro requirements.
