About The Position

The Project Controller plays a critical role in ensuring Black Box’s data center projects are delivered with accuracy, transparency, and predictable execution. Supporting structured cabling, network infrastructure, and low voltage scopes across active job sites, this role provides the real-time schedule and cost insights teams rely on to deliver fast paced, multibuilding programs. You’ll work closely with Project Managers, field leaders, procurement, and senior Project Controls leadership to ensure project schedules and cost data reflect actual field conditions and enable informed decision-making. This is an ideal role for someone who thrives in execution-driven environments and wants meaningful impact across major data center projects.

Requirements

  • Solid understanding of project controls fundamentals within construction or data center environments.
  • Experience supporting data center, structured cabling, or low voltage technology projects preferred.
  • Proficiency in Primavera P6 and/or Microsoft Project for detailed scheduling.
  • Experience tracking labor hours, headcounts, and productivity.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, or equivalent for cost tracking.
  • Foundational knowledge of Earned Value Management (EVM).
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills; exposure to Power BI or Tableau a plus.
  • Understanding GC milestones, phased turnovers, and multibuilding execution.
  • High attention to detail, strong documentation habits, and disciplined reporting.
  • Ability to prioritize fast-moving job sites and competing demands.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to partner well with field teams and leadership.
  • Self-driven, execution focused, and eager to grow within Black Box’s Project Controls organization.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor's degree in construction management, Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • 5+ years as a construction planner/scheduler on projects over $15M.

Responsibilities

  • Support assigned data center projects with hands-on schedule and cost control for structured cabling and technology infrastructure scopes.
  • Build, update, and maintain detailed project schedules aligned with GC milestones (DECC Ready, ENS Ready, PR, SC) and Black Box sequencing.
  • Track and forecast labor hours, headcount needs, and installation productivity.
  • Monitor project costs including labor, materials (OFCI/OFOI), expenses, and approved changes.
  • Ensure schedules and cost data accurately reflect field realities, access constraints, and material readiness.
  • Perform weekly schedule updates and validate progress with field teams.
  • Support cost forecasting, variance analysis, and labor productivity trending.
  • Assist with Earned Value Management (SPI, CPI), labor curves, and installation reports.
  • Help evaluate scope changes, bid leveling, and cost/schedule impacts.
  • Maintain alignment between schedule, cost, and resource plans across Black Box systems.
  • Identify emerging risks tied to logic sequencing, access handovers, material delays, and labor constraints.
  • Escalate risks with clear, data-backed recommendations.
  • Support the maintenance of project risk registers and mitigation tracking.
  • Participate in schedule reviews to ensure critical path and phasing reflect actual execution requirements.
  • Work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, and Field Leads to maintain alignment between planning and installation.
  • Coordinate with procurement to sync material delivery with installation sequencing.
  • Provide clear, concise schedule and cost updates to support project and customer decision-making.
  • Participate in coordination meetings with GCs, trade partners, and internal leadership as needed.
